STUFF

Diverse World Fashion was founded at Florida State University with a simple mission: Bring diversity to an industry known for overlooking people of color. I joined first as a writer, penning feature and editorial articles. Wanting to expand my role, I pursued the creative director position.

Over the course of a few issues, I designed spreads that aligned with each publication's theme. I also worked to continually hone my skills by learning new techniques and figuring out how to implement ideas I was inspired by.

DWF needed social media assets, too, ranging from curated content to behind-the-scenes plugs to promos for events. I also designed additional print and digital collateral, including interest and event flyers, business cards, and presentations (not pictured).

Karen (the K of K's Premium Hair) wanted a logo and website to help get her hair weave and extension business up and running. Her must haves? Keep her color palette in tact. With that in mind, I combined a K and a waterfall of luscious locks to create her logo.

Then, I created a website – starting with UX and UI design to development on a WYSIWYG platform – that was clean and classic. Karen wanted her site to feel upscale so that potential and current customers could feel like they were receiving a more elevated experience.

We rounded everything out with some stationery (a business card) and a flyer promoting one of K's events.

Jonathan was helming a brand-new fitness boot camp in Tallahassee and needed a way to get the word out. So he enlisted my help with creating print and digital materials that incorporated his new photography and color palette.

I started by designing a poster to display in Governor's Square Mall's digital signs. I then parlayed the poster design into the cover for a brochure that unfolded to a clean, modern layout.

Lastly, I designed a banner image for the cover photo of  The New You's business page.

THE NEW YOU BOOT CAMP

While Bold Favor Magazine's founder had a clear direction for its target, mission, and content, the flagship publication was struggling to carve out a cohesive visual identity. Which was evident in its nameplate; each issue's was different.

The goal? Design a classic and (of course) bold nameplate that would endure the magazine's coming years. I also reimagined the editorial's creative direction by designing more fresh, professional, and thoughtful layouts. Once print was on firmer footing, I created a secondary mark to use for the masthead and for the website I redesigned.

With a new look under its belt, Bold Favor launched The Bold Awards to honor people, businesses, and community partners leading in powerful ways. The new challenge: Give the Awards its own flair while staying true to the newly established identity.

James Wilder Jr., former Florida State Seminole running back, needed a little help. No, not with a logo. He actually needed spokespeople for his apparel company, I Am Wilder.

Officially, I signed on to rep the brand. Unofficially, I was already redesigning the logo in my head. Why?

Well, for starters, the original I Am Wilder logo was a scanned hand-drawn image way too hard to read at small sizes. On top of that, I saw an opportunity to fuse Wilder's last initial with the existing identity.

What came of the idea: a cleaner, more professional logo fit for a 2012 national champ. Wilder and his camp wasted no time incorporating the new mark on Instagram, Twitter, and even a banner for a club promotion.
